About Google

Google is a multinational company first and foremost known as a search engine. However, they also manufacture mobile phones such as the Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL and the Pixel 4a. Google owns Android, the world’s most popular smartphone operating system, therefore their phones provide users with a unique Android experience.

One of the most distinct features in any Google phone is Google Assistant, “your all-in-one DJ, organizer, sous chef, navigator, researcher, remote control, and how-did-I-function-without-it personal Google you control with just your voice” (Google). In simple words, Google Assistant makes your life easier by allowing you to use basic functions on your phone through voice command.

The Pixel family

Google’s Pixel phones have the slogan: “everything you love about Google, in a phone.” And it holds up. These mobile phones have a battery life that lasts all day, incredible camera features and the most recent Android 10.0 operating system. And if this wasn’t enough, all Google phones have unlimited photo storage with Google Photos.

When you purchase a Pixel phone you can have peace of mind if anything goes wrong. Expert help and support are just one tap away and you can even share your screen for guided help.

Pixel 2

If you’re one of those people that prefer buying an older device, you might be considering the Pixel 2. There are a few things to keep in mind about this model. Although it’s sturdier because of its metal unibody with hybrid coating, it only has half the camera features of newer models, lacking features such as Super Res Zoom and Motion Auto-Focus.

The phone was launched with the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system, which is now outdated. Although it’s true that the Pixel 2 can be upgraded to this new system, it will certainly become slower. Therefore, this model may save you a bit of money, but its performance won’t be so great.

Pixel 3

In terms of its design, the Pixel 3 has a soft-touch glass back, is water resistant, and has a full screen 5.5’’ display. It doesn’t come with a 3.5mm audio jack for headphones, but it has fast and wireless battery charging, unlike the previous Pixel 2. The Pixel 3 can go up to 128GB of memory and storage. It has a dual front camera, and introduces the Group Selfie feature, which recognises the faces of everyone in shot.

If you flip your phone face down, it will go from Bzzz to Shhh in the blink of an eye, meaning that the device will automatically enable the Do Not Disturb feature and hide all your notifications.

Pixel 3XL

Pixel 3’s big brother. This is Google’s biggest phone yet, with a 6.3-inch Quad HD + OLED display. Apart from the display size, both phones share similar features. Like the Pixel 3, the Pixel 3XL has the Active Edge functionality, which means you can bring up Google Assistant simply by squeezing the sides of your phone.

In terms of its camera features, it has a 12 MP camera with the latest Top Shot AI technology, which means that it can offer you a better shot than the one you actually took because it recognises when everyone in the shot is smiling and has their eyes open.

Pixel 3a

The Pixel 3a was launched on May 8th, 2019. It is widely regarded as a budget alternative for the original two Pixel 3 devices, having most of their features at a more affordable price.

This model brings back the 3.5mm audio jack for headphones, making it more convenient, and eliminates the dual selfie camera and front-facing stereo speakers in order to make the design cleaner on the front. It’s made up of a polycarbonate unibody but is not water resistant.

The Pixel 3a doesn’t have wireless charging, but its battery charges really fast, which means you can get up to 7 hours of use in just 15 minutes. This model is incredibly light by today’s standards, weighing 147g, which makes it easier and more convenient to hold in one hand.

Whatever your preferences are, a Google Pixel phone will surely fit your needs.

Pixel 4

The latest handset released by Google is the Pixel 4, launched at the end of 2019. It comes with a slightly larger, 5.7-inch display and an improved dual camera which also has a Night Light feature, allowing you to take pictures and shoot videos in the dark. It's available with either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.

A great new feature of the Google Pixel 4 is Motion Sense, which allows you to control certain aspects of your phone using just the motion of your hand. The Pixel 4 is definitely a phone you can show off with to your friends.

The Google Pixel 4 is also available in two different variations - the Pixel 4 XL and the Pixel 4a.

The Pixel 4 XL is essentially a larger, improved version of the Pixel 4, which is great if you love to stream videos on your mobile and want the best picture quality around. Meanwhile, the Pixel 4a is a cheaper alternative to the Pixel 4 (it only has a single rear camera) starting at under £400.
